John "Jack" J. McCarthy Jr., died May 22, 2008, at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach. He was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and moved to Vero Beach 35 years ago, coming from Ridgewood, N.J. He served in the Army until retiring as a major, and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He remained in the Army Reserve and worked as assistant director of transportation for ConEd of New York City. He was a member and usher at Holy Cross Catholic Church and St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach and Mount Carmel in Ridgewood. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus in Vero Beach and New Jersey, the Vero Beach Yacht Club, where he served on the House Committee, the Vista Royale Golf Club of Vero Beach, and the VFW and American Legion in Vero Beach and New Jersey.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Ann McCarthy of Vero Beach; daughters,
Joan Ann Rowan of Port Clinton, Ohio, and Barbara J. Kinnaugh of
Middletown, N.J.; brother, Bernard McCarthy of California; stepsons,
Phillip Kaeser of Crystal Lake, Minn., and Jeff Kaeser of Lenexa, Kan.;
five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; three stepgrandchildren and
three stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first
wife, Dorothy. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA/Hospice

SERVICES: A Mass will
be celebrated at 10 a.m. May 24 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero
Beach, followed by military honors provided by VFW Post 3918 of Vero
Beach. Burial will be at a later date at George Washington Memorial Park
in Paramus, N.J. Arrangements are by Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home
